Padres Manager Shares Sad Quote Amid Nightmare Season
The San Diego Padres have been, together with the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, and New York Yankees, one of the most disappointing teams in MLB to this point.
A season after making the NL Championship Series (where they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies), San Diego is 61-70 as of Monday afternoon.
That’s good for fourth in the NL West, 20 games behind the leaders: the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That’s not the worst part: with just over a month left to play, the Padres are eight games behind for the last Wild Card spot.
While it’s not impossible, making the postseason is a pipe dream at this point.
Padres manager Bob Melvin knows this, and couldn’t hide his disappointment.
He gave the most pessimistic quote we have seen or heard from him.
“‘There’s really no point in even looking at the standings at this point’ – Bob Melvin #Padres,” Padres radio host Jim Russell tweeted.

The Padres were swept by the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend and have lost seven of their last ten.
If they want to have a shot, they need to start stringing together wins as soon as possible, but it may be too late at this point.
Things like what Melvin said on the weekend are not frequently daid by MLB managers these days, but there should be nothing wrong with speaking from the heart.
Truth be told, he might be right: the Padres are now too far down the standings to have a real shot at making their second consecutive playoff push.
