Steve Kerr Gets Honest On Anthony Edwards’ Role With Team USA
Team USA had a significant victory in the lead-up to the FIBA Basketball World Cup this weekend, partly due to Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On Sunday, Team USA completed a 5-0 run during exhibition games after defeating Team Germany 99-91.
And Edwards was front-and-center for it all, scoring 34 points on 11-of-20 shooting.
He was also part of the team’s solid defensive effort too.
Following the game, Team USA head coach Steve Kerr had nothing but great things to say about the young player.
“He’s, unquestionably, the guy,” Kerr said, according to Tim Reynolds.

For the last few weeks, people have been predicting that Edwards could have a breakout run during the World Cup.
Seeing Edwards score a lot during the tournament wouldn’t be a shock.
In 2022-23, he averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.
However, he has a special opportunity during his time with Team USA.
Although the squad is filled with great talent, much of it is up-and-coming, and the team lacks a definitive leader.
Therefore, many analysts felt that Edwards could be the one to lead the team and become its most important component.
Based on his last few performances, it’s clear that he can do that.
Kerr now sees Edwards as perhaps the best option the team has, an A-list player who can make plays and run the ball and dictate the tempo of the team.
There are of course other star players on the squad, including Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, Austin Reaves, Jaren Jackson Jr., and others.
But as the World Cup quickly approaches, it seems that the team may have found its leader.
