Tom Brady sat at the top of the National Football League for the better part of two decades, watching two generations of quarterbacks go by and going toe-to-toe with them.

He put the cherry on top of the Sundae by winning his seventh Super Bowl, this time with a different franchise, cementing his status as the best player in the history of this league.

That’s why Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is trying to live up to that standard, as he recently told Peter King that even though seven rings is a lot, he’s still striving to get as close to Brady as possible (via The Sporting News).

Notably, while it seems impossible that anyone will even come close to Brady in that regard, Mahomes definitely strikes as the likeliest candidate.

He’s led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game in every single season he’s been a starter, and he already has three trips to the Super Bowl with two Vince Lombardi trophies and two Super Bowl MVPs.

Mahomes has the opportunity to go down as the best quarterback ever, both in the eye test and number-wise, but he’ll have to stay healthy and in the league for way more time than the average player.

Also, even if he were to tie or even surpass Brady at some point in time, Brady will still have bragging rights over him, as he beat him in the Super Bowl, and Mahomes will never get a chance to get back at him for that.
