The San Francisco 49ers find themselves with several questions to answer across their roster.

One of their biggest question marks is at quarterback, as it’s undetermined who their starter will be in Week 1.

Another surprising question is at kicker, as Robbie Gould has left the 49ers after six seasons.

Jake Moody is currently the 49ers PK1 on their depth chart, but recently missed two field goals in a preseason game.

When asked about Moody in a postgame presser, head coach Kyle Shanahan said, “he’s been great in practice, he’s hit them all.”

Shanahan ended with “There’s no issues here with me.”

Despite Moody’s two misses, at least publically, Shanahan continues to have faith in him.

Kicking in the NFL is an extremely high-pressure position.

While kickers are not among the highest-paid members of the team, they are valued members of the roster.

Having an elite kicker can be the difference between a round-one playoff exit and a potential Super Bowl victory.

Gould provided that stability for the 49ers.

They knew even if their quarterbacks struggled, as long as they could get within 50 yards of a field goal, they were relatively safe.

A new kicker puts that into question for the 49ers, an organization that has seen great success over the past decade.

Will 2023 be the year to put them over the top?
