Johnny Manziel’s brief NFL career will go down in infamy for so many reasons, but his larger-than-life persona will never be forgotten.

And now that a comeback is less than likely and he’s 30 years old, he decided to share some details of his story, having his very own Netflix documentary which premiered earlier in the week.

The series digs deep into some of the ups and downs of Manziel’s meteoric rise and drastic fall, and it sheds light on one massive lie he and his agent fabricated to bend NCAA rules.

Apparently, Manziel’s family wasn’t wealthy, a narrative that had countless fans and members of the media fooled for years, including former NFL player Ryan Clark.

Manziel’s friend and agent, Nate Fitch, fabricated the story about his family being wealthy due to an oil empire built by his great-great-grandfather.

That’s why it wasn’t surprising to see Manziel driving around in fancy cars, wearing Rolexes, or traveling all over the country despite not getting paid to play.

Instead, Manziel made his wealth by selling autographs, which was a major violation of the NCAA’s rules at the time.

Fortunately for athletes, they can now profit from their talents without being in violation of the rules.
