A growing number of people feel the Baltimore Ravens could be a dark-horse team this season in the AFC.

They have come a long way from the offseason when it looked like franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson was about to leave until he was given a five-year, $260 million contract.

The Ravens have added former three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is looking to rebound after a second torn ACL, as well as first-round draft pick Zay Flowers, a talented wideout from Boston College.

But it will be their defense that drives them to whatever their destination will be this winter.

In an attempt to make their defense even stronger, Baltimore reportedly reached out to free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, per Josina Anderson.

It’s easy to forget that Clowney was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, ahead of Beckham, Davante Adams, and Derek Carr.

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, he is an excellent physical specimen, and during his sophomore year of college at the University of South Carolina, he recorded 13 sacks.

However, he has failed to live up to the massive hype that surrounded him when he entered the league.

He missed most of his rookie season with a meniscus injury, and although he has made three Pro Bowls, he hasn’t achieved double-digit sacks in a single season.

Clowney spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he gave support to one of the game’s best pass rushers in Myles Garrett.

Although the Ravens were third in points allowed last season, they ranked just 26th in passing yards allowed.
