The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the first teams to open training camp this summer.

That is because they play the first game of the year on Thursday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

It is not easy to repeat as champions in the NFL, but that is what the Chiefs are hoping to do.

We have not seen a repeat champion since the New England Patriots in 2003-04.

But looking at their roster they have a great shot to accomplish that feat.

They will go as far as quarterback Patrick Mahomes can take them.

He is the reigning league MVP and continues to get better each year.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid talked to CBS Sports about how “the work is never done.”

He believes both Mahomes and his entire Chiefs team can continue to get better.

Reid mentioned how Mahomes can always work on something.

He can find a multitude of ways to get better and add to his game.

That is not what opposing NFL teams wanted to hear.

Mahomes is already an elite player and anything he can add to his game should scare opposing defenses.

The Chiefs enter the 2023-24 season as the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

So they will have a target on their back all season long.

The AFC might be as strong this year as it has ever been, meaning it will not be an easy task for the Chiefs to repeat.

But they certainly have the right players in place to get it done.
