With ESPN letting Jeff Van Gundy go, they’ve been in the market for another duo to join Mike Breen on the NBA broadcasts.

And while some speculated that former NBA player JJ Redick could be the next in line, Chad Finn of The Boston Globe recently reported that Doris Burke and Doc Rivers are currently leading the race to join Breen starting next season.

Notably, Rivers recently admitted that he didn’t know what he was going to do next or even if he’d ever get another chance to coach in the NBA.

His stint with the Philadelphia 76ers didn’t end on a high note, blowing back-to-back chances to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

It’s become an evident trend to watch Rivers’ teams struggle to get the job done in the postseason, and while he’s proven to be a great culture-setter and regular-season coach, his inability to get past the second round has become a concern since his days with the Los Angeles Clippers.

But he still knows a thing or two about basketball, and he comes with plenty of experience in that regard.

Ironically, ESPN let go of most of their on-air talents that were making over $1 million, Van Gundy included.

It’s hard to think that Rivers will take less than that, but at least some of the viewers will get a breath of fresh air with him and Burke potentially joining Breen.
