At this time last year, most expected the Detroit Lions to be one of the worst teams in the NFL during the 2022 season.

They lost six of their first seven games, but after that, they started to click on all cylinders, going 8-2 the rest of the way and nearly making the playoffs.

2022 was also the first year that Ben Johnson was Detroit’s offensive coordinator, and he saw them go from 25th in points scored and 22nd in total yards to fifth and fourth, respectively.

Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus has ranked Johnson as the best offensive coordinator in pro football, which is something that should give Lions fans lots of good vibes for this coming season.

Detroit has the pieces to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, starting with quarterback Jared Goff, who had one of his best campaigns in 2022.

He threw for 4,438 yards and 29 touchdowns while posting a 99.3 passer rating, which earned him his third trip to the Pro Bowl.

At wide receiver, they have a rising stud in Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had 1,161 receiving yards and six touchdowns last year, which also sent him to the Pro Bowl.

Veteran wideout Marvin Jones Jr. is back with the team, and they have high hopes for Jameson Williams, who was a rookie in 2022.

Many are picking the Lions to finish first in the NFC North, especially after the Minnesota Vikings lost Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen and the Green Bay Packers finally let go of future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
