Despite the rise of the NBA over the past decade or so, the NFL remains the most popular and profitable professional sport in this country, and that distinction doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

Even though the league and its teams are making an enormous amount of money year in and year out, some of its players are starting to feel slighted for not being paid what they’re worth, and it’s hard to disagree with them at this point, especially with the sport being as brutal and physically taxing as it is.

Although star quarterbacks will always be the position that gets paid the most with contracts that get more and more lucrative every year, the running back position has really taken a hit in recent years, with some of the best and brightest players having no long-term security.

It has gotten to the point where teams won’t commit to star running backs for longer than a year or two, especially when they are eligible to sign a new contract, and franchise tags can be used.

As arguably one of the greatest running backs of all time, Marcus Allen has reacted to how modern-day running backs are being treated and he’s not a fan, noting they are “sadly undervalued,” via ProFootballTalk

Currently, Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants star Saquon Barkley are struggling for their teams to pay them long-term, as the teams want them to sign a franchise tag worth a little over $10 million for next season.

Jacobs and Barkley have refused to sign their franchise tags, making it a tense situation in Las Vegas and New York, with no telling how things will get resolved for arguably two of the best backs in football.
