Gerrit Cole Reveals His All-Star Game Pitching Plan
Making the MLB All-Star Game has always been one of the significant achievements of a player’s season.
Whether they are voted in by fans as a starter or selected as a reserve, no one takes the honor for granted.
One of the biggest honors of the game is being named the starting pitcher.
For the first time in his career, New York Yankees righty Gerrit Cole will start the game for the American League.
Cole is a six-time All-Star but this one means more to him.
With so many great pitchers available most starters only throw the first inning or two.
According to Jon Morosi, Cole plans only to pitch the first inning so he can be ready for the second half of the season.
Loved hearing Gerrit Cole’s interview on @MLBNetworkRadio, about how excited he is to start for Dusty Baker tonight at the @MLB All-Star Game.

Cole is very deserving of being the AL starting pitcher.
He has pitched to a 9-2 record with a 2.85 ERA.
Also, he has thrown 117.0 innings with 123 strikeouts and only 34 walks.
Despite Cole being one of the best pitchers of the last decade he has never won a Cy Young award.
But, he has set himself up nicely to make a run at it this year.
He has finished in the top 10 of the Cy Young voting in the last five seasons.
It appears the Yankees will be fighting for a playoff berth in the second half of the season.
New York has made the playoffs in six consecutive seasons.
They need Cole to be healthy to give them any chance of keeping their postseason streak alive.
