Jordan Montgomery Comments On His Injury
Things continue to get worse for the St. Louis Cardinals, who were heavily favored to win the NL Central at the beginning of the season.
The team led 5-0 as late as the fifth inning on Friday night before the bullpen squandered the lead and allowed the Chicago White Sox to rally and take the series opener.
To make matters worse, left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who was cruising until the fifth, was ultimately forced to exit the game with a hamstring injury.
After the game, Montgomery commented on what took place and where things stand as the Cardinals wait and see if any time on the injured list is required, via John Denton.
#STLCards LHP Jordan Montgomery on the hamstring injury that ruined a strong outing: “Hoping for some good news. I just kind of slipped on the mound, and my body tried to catch itself. Just hoping for good news tomorrow.”

Montgomery said that he slipped on the mound and tweaked his hamstring as he caught himself.
However, he is hoping for a positive update in the coming days.
With Adam Wainwright already out with a shoulder injury, the Cardinals starting rotation can ill afford to take yet another hit.
Montgomery has without a doubt been the team’s best starting pitcher this season, and any time without him would be a major problem.
The Cardinals are essentially buried in the standings, with little hope of a turnaround.
Even so, losing Montgomery would be a tough blow for the team.
St. Louis may need to dive into the starting pitching market and add a piece or two if Montgomery needs time on the IL.
As time goes on, the team’s lack of offseason activity continues to haunt them.
No starting pitchers were added over the winter.
As such, St. Louis finds itself in a precarious position.
