Luis Severino Comments On His Nightmare Outing
New York Yankees starter Luis Severino is officially in danger of losing his spot in the rotation.
The Yankees don’t have much depth at the moment so they need him out there, but they are about to get Carlos Rodon back and Nestor Cortes Jr. should follow shortly after the All-Star break.
At the moment, if a starter needs to be bumped when Cortes returns, it’s probably going to be Severino.
The right-hander with the cool 3.64 career ERA has a horrible 7.38 mark this year after another nightmarish start on Thursday.
In just 2.2 innings of work against the Baltimore Orioles, Severino surrendered seven runs, all earned.
He conceded 10 hits and a walk while striking out three.
It’s not even a matter of velocity: his fastball velo is right in line with his 2022 numbers (when he had a 3.18 ERA).
He is just not executing: his fastball is not fooling anybody, his slider doesn’t have the bite of past times, and his changeup hasn’t been effective either.
When reporters asked him, via SNY Yankees, about his slider (his put-away pitch), he said he doesn’t feel good about any of his offerings.

There is no one more frustrated by Severino’s current performance than the pitcher himself.
Not even the most avid Yankees fan is more disappointed than Severino, who has a history of consistency in his MLB career.
He just doesn’t have it at the moment: he is not putting hitters away and they are making him pay.
Command has been a big issue.
If there are no health issues to report, he should be able to bounce back eventually.
