Shaq Defends Draymond Green’s Stomp On Domantas Sabonis
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors got himself into a tricky situation on Monday night.
The fiery star was ejected from the very important Game 2 after stomping on the chest of Domantas Sabonis after Sabonis fell to the ground and held onto his leg.
While many people agree that Green was a bit excessive with this move, there are plenty of others who are defending what he did.
Shaquille O’Neal is one of them.
Following the game, O’Neal and his NBA on TNT peers debated Green and his ejection.
“I’m not going to sit up here and be a hypocrite,” O’Neal said. “I’d do the same thing, I really would. …Don’t be grabbing me because what am I gonna do? If I stay there and just try to run forward, I’ll fall.”
“One bad play begets another,” O’Neal said, saying that Sabonis was in the wrong for the initial hold and that Green’s reaction was justified.
This entire incident is certainly going to be something that people talk about for the foreseeable future.
There seems to be a fairly even split between fans and NBA analysts about whether Green was right or if he was going over the top with his response.
The thing that makes this all the more complicated is Green’s past and his overall persona.
It is hard to separate his actions from the prickly personality that has a habit of angering people.
He doesn’t usually get the benefit of the doubt, even when he is in the right.
No matter if he was correct or not, Green cost himself some crucial time in Monday night’s game and his team lost.
People will debate his actions but one thing cannot be debated: the Warriors are letting this series slip away.
