Non-Binary Broadway Star Declines Tony Eligibility Over Inclusivity, ‘I Didn’t Feel

Justin Sullivan, who currently stars on Broadway has declined eligibility for a Tony award over the categories being only “male or female.” Sullivan’s “non-binary” status left him conflicted as to which category to compete in as he identifies as neither male nor female.  

Sucks for him.

Sullivan told Playbill “I was told that I had to choose [the category in which] I felt comfortable, and in that process, I struggled a lot.” 

It’s kinda funny when people who choose to make life harder for themselves by “identifying” as something other than what they really are, complain about struggling.

Sullivan said he was opting out of any eligibility for the Tony awards for his role of “May” in the musical “& Juliet,” based off of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet.” In the show, May is Juliet’s non-binary friend. 

Here’s more of what Sullivan said regarding the Tony Awards:

There’s nothing more that I want to empower than non-binary people, to show that it’s possible to be non-binary on Broadway, play a non-binary character on Broadway and be nominated, and possibly potentially awarded. I felt like I couldn’t choose. I didn’t feel right being in either category because it didn’t resonate with me. I decided the only thing that felt right to me would be to abstain from nomination consideration. So I will not be considered for a Tony nomination.

Hey, I can’t say that I hate this. If you’re gonna pitch a fit about getting an award in the “right” category, I don’t think you should get one at all and opting out is a good way to make sure that happens!

Another Broadway performer, Alex Newell, echoed Sullivan’s thoughts and said it was time for award shows to abandon “tradition” and focus more on inclusivity.

Sullivan said it “really hurt” to have to abstain from nomination from the Tony’s and urged the award group and others alike it to accept more “inclusive” terms. 

They/Them is a king of virtue signaling.

Hate to break it to you David but that tactic has already tried and failed. In 2022, the British Photogenic Industry (Brit) Awards did away with gender specific categories. After the top ten nominees were all men, creators said they’d be reviewing their gender policies. 

Everyday seems like another leftist or gender-queer-er complains about something or another being not “inclusive” enough.

Here’s a solution, stick with the gender God gave you.
