Passengers at Melbourne Airport have been forced to dodge walls of water pouring from the terminals’ ceilings as wild weather batters the state. 

A spokesperson for Melbourne Airport told Daily Mail Australia leaks were reported throughout multiple terminals with some flights delayed. 

‘There have been some leaks across the terminals due to a severe storm and we have crews working to clean it up,’ a Melbourne Airport spokesperson said.

‘We apologise to all our passengers.’

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Melbourne saying heavy rainfall and damaging winds were expected across the state. 

A video posted by journalist Jacqui Felgate to Instagram showed water pouring from the roof, with a puddle forming on a tiled floor below.

Staff could be seen scrambling as bystanders watched on in shock at what they were witnessing.

A second video showed water flooding the Terminal 1 pub as windows and tables are saturated. 

The severe weather hit the airport around 2pm and resulted in some flights being diverted while other planes were placed in a holding pattern.

While the storm only lasted for around an hour the clean up job is still ongoing, with airport staff working to get flights back on schedule.

More than 100,000 passengers were estimated to be at Melbourne Airport on Thursday as holiday travel gets into full swing.

Online, many users commented that the torrential rain had wreaked havoc across the Greater Melbourne region. 

‘Yep.. I’m in Tulla and we had a massive storm.. garage and pergola is all flooded here,’ one person said.

‘We live 10 minutes from the airport and boy was it a huge storm. Totally hammered here in Gladstone Park,’ another commented.

While weather presenter Sam mac chipped in saying, ‘Just wanted to go on the record stating that I predicted rain for Melbourne Airport today’.
