Ka Roger’s daughter, 5 others slain in Palawan
MANILA, Philippines — The daughter of the late New People’s Army (NPA) spokesman Gregorio ”Roger” Rosal, four other communist rebels and a Marine were killed in an encounter in Brooke’s Point, Palawan yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Nestor Herico, 3rd Marine Brigade commander, said Andrea Rosal, alias Naya; Bonifacio Magramo, secretary of a unit of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party, and three others with aliases of Celnon, Pandan and Jay-r were killed.
The slain soldier has yet to be identified pending notification of his family members.
Rosal was said to be the deputy secretary of the party headed by Magramo. She was arrested on charges of murder and kidnapping in March 2014 and freed after more than a year.
Lt. Col. Stephen Penetrente, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said the clash occurred in Sitio Kabuyuan in Barangay Mainit while personnel of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 4 were patrolling the area.
The military said firearms, laptops, cellular phones and subversive documents were recovered from the fatalities.
Penetrante said intelligence reports confirmed the presence of communist rebels in the area which is being used as a guerrilla base. He said they are monitoring around 30 other NPA rebels in Palawan.
In Sultan Kudarat, Cpl. Wilson Caguimbal of the 37th Infantry Battalion was killed in an ambush by suspected NPA rebels in Kalamansig town on Wednesday.
Caguimbal was with a team of soldiers responding to reports that construction equipment were burned in Barangay Andong when they were shot.
NPA rebels in Kalamansig are known for attacking construction companies for non-payment of so-called protection money.
