Jetstar travel voucher warning over non-transferable flight coupons
Would-be globetrotters trying to save a buck are being warned not to buy second-hand travel vouchers – because they aren’t redeemable.
Vouchers issued at the start of the coronavirus pandemic for cancelled flights are appearing on online marketplaces like Gumtree.
In most cases, the second-hand voucher is selling for less than it is actually worth.
One Jetstar credit voucher worth $2349.84 is selling for $2,000 and doesn’t expire for another 10 months, according to the ad.
Many say they are selling the voucher at a premium because they need the cash now and the vouchers aren’t refundable.
However, airlines are warning against punters trying to save money on their future travel plans.
“We remind customers never to purchase Jetstar vouchers on online market places such as Gumtree, eBay or Facebook Marketplace,” a Jetstar spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.
“They are not valid vendors for Jetstar products.
“In doing so they could be purchasing fraudulent or stolen vouchers which will not be honoured.”
When redeeming the vouchers, the person named on it must be a passenger or a contact in the booking, the spokesperson said.
There is no indication Australians will be able to travel overseas anytime soon, with Health Minister Greg Hunt saying the border closure was “constantly reviewed”.
Opening and closing state borders have also seen domestic travel slow to a crawl – particularly given the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.
