Biden Signs $1.2 Trillion Spending Package to Avert Government Shutdown

by Charlotte Hazard

President Joe Biden signed a $1.2 trillion government spending package on Saturday averting a partial shutdown of the federal government.

He described the measure as “good news for the American people,” according to The Hill.

The House passed the legislation Friday with a 286-134 vote, resulting in anger and frustration from members of the House Freedom Caucus.

The legislation passed in the Senate early Saturday 74-24.

“This agreement represents a compromise, which means neither side got everything it wanted,” Biden said.

On Friday, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed a motion to vacate over this bill, which could set up a vote on whether House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., will continue in his role as speaker.
