With the Atlanta Falcons moving on from head coach Arthur Smith and seemingly being done with Desmond Ridder as their starting quarterback, the struggling franchise is determined to make some considerable changes during the NFL offseason now that Raheem Morris is in the fold as the new head coach.

It appears that Morris’ first order of business as Smith’s successor in Atlanta is to address the quarterback position, as the team has let it be known that upgrading the position is the team’s top priority heading into the offseason.

Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of speculation about Justin Fields being the team’s target, with the Chicago Bears expected to trade the up-and-coming star with the team more than likely drafting USC’s Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Although Fields has been mentioned as a potential fit for the Falcons, analyst John Middlekauff believes that Atlanta should go after veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins over trading for Fields, via T”he Herd with Colin Cowherd.”

“If Kirk Cousins is healthy, to me, Justin Fields is an afterthought if I’m a front office,” Middlekauff said. “Before I trade any pick of value, which, let’s face it, is probably going to be a second or third-round pick for Justin Fields. … If I’m Atlanta and I’ve got these weapons, I’d be over Kirk Cousins.”

At this point in time, it is uncertain what the Falcons will do moving forward, but the team definitely has its options either ahead of the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft or beyond that if they choose to go the free-agency route.

Regardless of what the team does, the Falcons will almost certainly have a better situation at the quarterback position moving forward.
