GOP-Led House Passes Last Minute Short-Term CR to Avoid Government Shutdown

by Nicholas Ballasy

The GOP-led House passed a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) on Thursday to avoid a partial government shutdown one-day before the deadline.

The House vote on the bill was 320-99 with 13 members not voting. It now moves to the Democratic-led Senate for consideration, where it is expected to pass.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and congressional leaders announced a plan on Wednesday to pass the CR, which would fund one group of federal agencies through March 8 and a separate set through March 22.

In the meantime, Congress would continue to work on passing appropriations bills to fund the government for a longer time period.
