Harnessing Esoteric Techniques for Conscious Dream Control


How can you become aware that you are in a dream state while sleeping and control how the dream goes? If that sounds like something you would love to do, then you are in for a treat because you will learn all about how to practice lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming is when you become aware that you are dreaming and can actively participate in shaping your dream experiences.

There are so many different esoteric techniques, such as reality checks and dream journaling, to enhance your lucid dreaming abilities and explore the realms of your subconscious mind.

 

How Does Lucid Dreaming Work?

Everyone dreams, but not everyone dreams in a vivid state where they are aware they are dreaming and have the ability to control their dreams, which is lucid dreaming. Even though the phenomenon of lucid dreaming is being studied, there is still a lot unknown about it. However, the findings show lucid dreams develop in the brain’s prefrontal cortex.

When you have typical dreams, you will be aware of events, objects, and people, but you believe you are in a state of reality and are not aware that you are dreaming when those dreams are not lucid. However, lucid dreamers are aware that they are sleeping and dreaming, which gives them the advantage of controlling their surroundings in the dream. Researchers who observed lucid dreamers found that the activity in the prefrontal cortex when lucid dreaming is similar to being awake. Therefore, lucid dreaming may be known as the hybrid sleep-wake state.

Typical dreaming can happen at any stage of sleep, but lucid dreams happen during the REM state, which is the last part of the sleep cycle. Lucid dreams originate from typical dreams, so how can you be a consistent lucid dreamer? Let’s review some esoteric techniques to help you become a lucid dreamer.

 

Keep Your Sleep Hygiene Clean

The first thing you need to do if you want to start lucid dreaming is to ensure your sleep hygiene is clean, which means cutting out caffeine by 2 pm and staying away from adult beverages. Establish good bedtime routines that will help you maintain a healthy sleep schedule. That means doing a bedtime ritual to help you sleep well, such as bathing with Epsom salts and other sleep-inducing flower petals such as lavender or chamomile, and ensuring the water is lukewarm before bed. You can enhance the esoteric experience by dimming the lights and placing purple candles by the tub ledges.

You can also read a calming book before bed, and if you decide to take a bath, you can read as you soak in the tub. You can also adopt a sleeping ritual by meditating or doing yoga stretches before bed. However, you want to develop a bedtime ritual before you head to bed, which will heal your relationship with sleeping if you struggle.

You must also keep your room dark to help promote melatonin production and keep away from screens a half hour before you go to sleep. Developing a healthy relationship with sleep is essential before you even begin attempting lucid dreaming. Therefore, if your sleep hygiene is not clean, you must clean it. It is also important to note that you want a consistent sleep/wake schedule. Please don’t stay up late only because it is the weekend to sleep in. Keep it consistent no matter what.

 

Get a Dream Journal and Use It

It is essential to have a dream journal if you want to practice lucid dreaming because you need to begin recollecting your dreams. Keep the dream journal by your bedside to start writing them down after you wake up. Don’t worry about trying to make sense of them immediately, as you want to write down what you dreamed of immediately because you will quickly forget your dreams as the day progresses.

That means if you have a habit of scrolling on social media before waking up, you need to break that habit. First, write down what you dreamed in your dream journal to become a lucid dreamer. After that, you can start scrolling on your social media.

If you prefer not to keep a dream journal, you can always take your smartphone and record your dream by voice. Either way, you must jot down whether you use a journal or record it on your smartphone.

Once you have your dreams written or recorded, you can analyze them. You can always go online and look for dream interpretations of the types of dreams you have if you need some help with processing your dreams to find meaning. As you get into the habit of recording and writing down your dreams, you will begin to see patterns and piece stories your subconscious tells you.

However, if you have distressing dreams or nightmares, find out what they are telling you, as those types of dreams are there because your subconscious is warning you that you have a serious imbalance that is creating more stress in your life. You will want to examine that and find out what you need to learn from them to work on those areas causing stress.
