After 17 games and 18 weeks of regular season games, the best teams in the NFL gear up for the playoffs with the Super Bowl in Las Vegas a little more than a month away.

Each conference’s seeding effectively reveals the best teams vying for a Super Bowl berth, but betting odds do a good job as well of cutting through the nuance of where a team lands in the pecking order of the playoffs to determine true Super Bowl contenders.

Pro Football Focus broke down each NFC team’s odds of winning the Super Bowl, with the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers unsurprisingly leading the charge for the conference.

The 49ers have been far and above the best team in the NFC after they finished with the best record in the conference.

San Francisco has also cruised through wins all year, with the exception of a little three-loss hiccup in the middle of the season when the 49ers were missing a few of their best players.

They’ll get the bye week in the first round, which leaves the rest of the field to face each other first.

The Dallas Cowboys make the most sense as the second favorite after how they’ve played recently in securing the No. 2 seed.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions being tied for third is a bit strange considering how well the Lions have played recently and how poorly the Eagles have played.

But Philadelphia has a subjectively easier matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Lions take on the red-hot Los Angeles Rams team led by former Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford.
