For a moment, it looked like the Detroit Pistons could win their Thursday night game against the Boston Celtics.

But then the Pistons got back into their regular bad habits, the Celtics woke up, and Detroit lost their 28th straight game, 128-122, in overtime.

Following that historic defeat, Gilbert Arenas lamented the state of the team and its lead star, simply tweeting, “#FreeCade.”

Since the beginning of this horrific string of losses by the Pistons, fans have felt very bad for Cade Cunningham and his place on the team.

He is putting up 23.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game this season, shooting 44.9% from the field.

On Thursday, Cunningham had another strong game with his 31 points and 9 assists.

He is playing like an All-Star and, frankly, someone who is much better than the team he is on.

But there are in fact multiple exciting players on the roster, such as Bojan Bogdanovic, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, and others.

Of course, they also have a beloved coach, Monty Williams, who knows quite a bit about how to help a team win.

Despite all of that talent, the Pistons are stuck in a horrible position that isn’t getting any better.

They will next face off against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, followed by the Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets.

The team could surprise and finally pull out a win but the past doesn’t suggest that’ll happen.

Cunningham isn’t going anywhere but the cries for his departure will only grow as the team nears 30 losses in a row.
