For players who want to be successful at the MLB level, the offseason is not exclusively to rest.

It’s not uncommon to see young players and prospects trying to develop their skills or going back to the field in November or December.

They know they have to be one step ahead of the competition to try and secure a place in the team’s plans, and an early start is always helpful.

This is the case of Boston Red Sox 19-year-old outfielder Miguel Bleis.

The promising prospect missed a lot of time with injury this past season, but is already putting the work in to make sure 2024 is his year.

“Miguel Bleis getting some swings in after missing most of 2023 due to shoulder surgery. He’s currently ranked as the #5 prospect in the Red Sox system, per @SoxProspects. Back in spring training, Bleis said his goal is to become a similar player to Ronald Acuna Jr.,” Tyler Milliken tweeted.

Shoulder injuries might be troublesome for batters, so Bleis is making sure to strengthen the area and is getting comfortable swinging the bat again.

Bleis is not a burner, but has above-average speed.

His most appealing tool, however, is his raw power.

He has some of the most impressive bat speed in the minor leagues, and Boston believes he can eventually be an All-Star outfielder.

He was able to play 31 games this year, in Single-A.

There, he hit a disappointing .230/.282/.325 with one home run and 11 stolen bases.

Still, he is still a teenager and it was his first time in full-season ball, plus he suffered the shoulder injury.

He remains a big part of the Red Sox’s future plans.
