Insider Reveals Concerning Health Update On Mike McCarthy
The Dallas Cowboys have endured minimal injuries this season, and it’s a big reason why they’re currently the No. 5 seed in the NFC at 9-3.
This week’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles might be the team’s biggest game of the year, too, with the NFC East now theoretically up for grabs after the Eagles lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.
But adversity hit the Cowboys sideline this week after head coach Mike McCarthy had a bit of a health scare.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that McCarthy will undergo an appendectomy for acute appendicitis on Wednesday afternoon after he experienced abdominal pain.
However, McCarthy is still expected to coach Sunday against the Eagles.
Dallas’ three coordinators – Dan Quinn, Brian Schottenheimer, and John Fassel – will reportedly run practice until McCarthy is back.

Appendectomies have typically forced multi-week absences for players, but the situation is a little different for a coach.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow missed some time during the 2022 offseason after he required surgery when his appendix ruptured, but it didn’t affect him once he returned to the field.
McCarthy, meanwhile, will likely just be limited with his mobility and celebrations on the sideline.
Fortunately, his three coordinators have a bounty of coaching experience.
Quinn was the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons, Fassel was an interim head coach for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 and Schottenheimer has been an offensive coach since 2006.
McCarthy has – for the most part – coached a good season for the Cowboys.
This game should test his limits, though, both mentally and physically.
