The Los Angeles Lakers took a risk by acquiring Cam Reddish.

They had been keeping tabs on him for quite a while, but they waited until he became a free agent before making their move.

And while he has yet to establish himself and find his role in the league, the early returns of this experiment have been encouraging.

That’s why LeBron James took to Twitter to rave about his performance as a starter after their overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Reddish was a late add to the starting lineup, joining the likes of D’Angelo Russell, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves.

He responded by embracing the not-so-easy roles of guarding Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and even Russell Westbrook at times.

Reddish obviously had the physical tools to be an elite defender, but he was never asked to do that role.

He was always an instant-offense kind of guy, but he’s embracing this new 3-and-D role given to him by Darvin Ham.

While not an elite defender yet, he did pick off George once, forced some deflections, and ran over and under screens.

Reddish’s upside is still there.

He’s a young player, and it wasn’t that long ago that he was considered to be one of the most promising young players in the nation.

Perhaps he’s earned the starting nod over Taurean Prince, who was out with left knee soreness, and even if not, he’s going to have a big role for this Lakers team.
