The Chicago Bears were surprisingly one of the most discussed teams at the trade deadline.

Not only did they trade for Montez Sweat, sending away a second-round pick in the process, but they also were in talks to move Jaylon Johnson.

Johnson received an opportunity to meet with other teams on the last available day, but a deal was never put in ink.

He made it clear that he would prefer not to play for the Bears by looking around at other teams.

However, GM Ryan Poles has recently indicated that the team would still like to give him a contract extension in the future.

According to Poles via Around The NFL, “We are still open to getting a contract done,” adding “And I’m going to follow Jaylon’s lead on how he wants to go about doing that.”

As seen in years past, just because teams offer a player a contract, does not mean they will take it.

Johnson might already be mentally and physically spent with the Bears, which is why he was seeking a new deal in the first place.

Will Poles and his staff convince him to stick around in 2024 and beyond? Only time will tell in this situation.
