Laiqzada Laiq (15 January 1959 – 30 October 2023 Pashto: لائق زادہ لائق)) was a Pashto language poet from Madyan, Swat), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Biography[edit]

Laiq graduated from Jahanzeb College Swat, got a master’s degree in Urdu and Pashto literature from University of Peshawar and political science from University of Karachi. He is also working in Radio Pakistan as a director.[2]

He wrote more than 500 radio plays and 12 TV plays.[3] In addition to his radio and TV work, he authored 120 stories and 36 books.[4]

Awards and recognition[edit]

He was the recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.[5] In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Pashto literature, he was awarded the Kamal Fan Award in 2021, Pakistan’s highest literary award.[6]

Laiq passed away on 30 October 2023 in Peshawar.[3] His contribution to Pashto literature has been widely recognized and mourned. President of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, Dr. Najiba Arif, expressed her deep sorrow over the demise of him.[7][8]
