The St. Louis Cardinals are a team we have not talked about for a while.

That is because they had a disappointing regular season and missed the playoffs.

It seemed like the last month of the season they were celebrating the career of Adam Wainwright.

Their legendary starting pitcher announced this was his final season and the fanbase wanted to celebrate him.

Wainwright still needed to file the paperwork to become officially retired.

He tweeted out his retirement papers including a funny reason as to why he is done playing.

Wainwright put his reason for retirement as: “I got a puppy!”

Wainwright decided to call it quits at the age of 42.

He accomplished a lot of great things in his career including 200 career wins and winning the 2006 World Series.

His career ERA is 3.53 and he struck out 2,202 batters across 2,668.1 innings.

Longevity like his is rare in baseball, and he will be missed by everyone in St. Louis.

Now the Cardinals must move forward looking for ways to get back to being competitive.

The Cardinals still have a quality roster including Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.

Also, they have a few up-and-coming hitters in Jordan Walker and Lars Nootbaar.

But, one spot they might struggle is with starting pitching.

St. Louis needs to be aggressive to address their pitching issues this offseason.

Adding an ace to the staff would be a great move.

The Cardinals are known for being one of the most successful franchises in the sport.

After a down year, you can bet their front office will make the necessary moves to get back into contention.
