Matthew Perry Dead at 54

The acting world has lost a TV comedy legend.

Matthew Perry has died. Authorities found the Friends alum, 54, unresponsive Oct. 28 in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of an ongoing investigation, said there was no sign of foul play.

TMZ also quoted law enforcement sources as saying that first responders found Perry unresponsive in a home, adding that he appeared to have drowned.

E! News has reached out to Perry’s rep and to the Los Angeles Police Department for comment and has not heard back.

Perry was born in Massachusetts and raised in Canada. At age 15, he moved from Ottawa to Los Angeles to finish high school and pursue an acting career. After taking on a few small parts on TV for several years, his big break came in 1987, when he played a leading role in the sitcom Boys Will Be Boys. The series lasted one season, after which Perry landed a recurring role on Growing Pains.
