After a slow start to the 2023 NFL season, Justin Fields began to look like the quarterback who had an impressive run for the Chicago Bears to end last season.

Fields didn’t look comfortable in the offense through the first four weeks, but he eventually found a groove and got Chicago in the win column after beating the Washington Commanders.

Although Fields looked better on the field, he and the team suffered a major setback when he injured his thumb in their Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

To make matters worse, it came on his throwing hand which would make it incredibly difficult for him to grip the football.

Initially, there was some optimism that Fields would be able to play through the injury though he didn’t practice throughout the week.

As expected, Fields will miss Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders and potentially more time after that via Jonathan Jones of CBS.

This is a major blow for the Bears who were hoping to evaluate Fields more, but now they’ll be without their starter for multiple weeks.

Tyson Bagent will step in place of Fields, though there isn’t much confidence he can carry the offense considering how he looked against Minnesota.

If the Bears lose against the Raiders, the organization is going to have to seriously consider selling some pieces and putting them in a position to claim the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Caleb Williams is widely viewed as the consensus number-one overall pick, which means Chicago could reset the franchise with him if they decide to move on from Fields.
