The WNBA is coming to the Bay Area and Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry is excited about it.

Curry recorded a video, shared by the Warriors’ Twitter account, that featured him welcoming the new unnamed team.

“Looking forward to having y’all. Can’t wait to see y’all thrive at the highest level. Let’s get it,” Curry said in the video.

The WNBA just announced that they have approved an expansion into the Warriors’ San Francisco backyard starting in the 2025 season.

Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, co-owners of the Warriors, will operate this new franchise, which will be a sister team for Golden State.

The team will not only be run by the same executives, but it will also play at Chase Center in San Francisco as well.

Additionally, the players will use the Warriors’ Oakland facility as their headquarters.

This is very big news because it has been some time since the WNBA created a new team.

Back in 2008, the Atlanta Dream launched but since then the league hasn’t made any moves like this.

Years ago, northern California had a WNBA team but the Sacramento Monarchs wrapped up operations after the 2009 season.

The league has been blowing up in some big ways recently.

It has created new television deals and has earned many more fans, partly because of positive word-of-mouth and the support of NBA superstars like Curry and others.

It is a league that is looking to grow a lot in the near future.

That means that this upcoming team will not be the last new one.

Which NBA team will be involved in the next expansion?
