The Dallas Mavericks will enter the 2023-24 NBA season as one of the top candidates to make a deep playoff run.

In order to avoid missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, the Mavs will need to rely on the duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Individually, the two superstars are phenomenal players, but the Mavericks need them to work together throughout the upcoming season.

Speaking of the duo, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd heaped huge praise on the Doncic-Irving duo via SiriusXM NBA Radio on Twitter.

“When you look at those two together offensively, definitely one of the top 5 [combos in the league],” Kidd said.

As expected, Kidd believes Doncic and Irving are among the top-five offensive duos in the NBA.

Well, offense has always been a strong suit for both stars, so Kidd’s assessment is not far away from the truth.

Doncic averaged 32.4 points per game last season, while Irving put up 27.1 points per game.

On any given day, stopping a duo that combines for more than 50 points per game can prove to be a Herculean task for any defense.

While it’s great to have an excellent offense, the duo still needs to work on its defensive abilities.

After all, having a potent offense is barely enough to win games and ultimately have an impactful run in the postseason.

Both Luka and Kyrie can play average defense, but that’s simply not going to get the job done.
