Justin Fields Gets Honest On Chase Claypool Saga

The Chicago Bears have found themselves at odds with one of their wide receivers.

Chase Claypool has recently gotten himself into some hot water with the team, the main reason he was inactive for Week 4.

Claypool was benched a few days after expressing his frustration with the Bears’ offense.

After Claypool was asked if he was in the best position to showcase his skillset, he replied “no.”

The Bears are now on a public search to find a trade partner, hoping to cut ties with Claypool.

Justin Fields recently spoke out about this situation, according to Bears reporter Sean Hammond.

Fields said, “I think he knows he kind of messed up by saying that, but wish him nothing but the best.”

Fields also commented on Claypool’s work ethic, and said that he is a “great person.”

While this might be an endorsement, it isn’t likely to affect what the Bears’ front office believes.

In ten games with the Bears, Claypool was targeted 43 times, which resulted in 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown.

The Bears traded a second-round pick for Claypool, but he hasn’t returned on their investment the way that he hoped.

His off-field drama combined with a lack of on-field productivity are likely reasons for a looming trade.

Thankfully for the Bears, they have other receiving options to turn to as Fields’ passing numbers are on the rise.

In Week 4, Fields threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns, spreading the ball around to various members of the offense.

D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, and Darnell Mooney all had at least 50 receiving yards, and combined for 19 catches and three touchdowns.

These three have been identified as his primary pass-catchers, leaving Claypool in the dust.
