The New York Giants had complete confidence in Daniel Jones as their guy for the future.

Instead of placing him under the franchise tag like several analysts proposed, they signed him to a big contract, even more significant than one would think, given his history of struggles.

Jones was coming off the best season of his career, and while the numbers weren’t impressive by any means, there were reasons to be excited about the future and his development in another year under Brian Daboll.

Nonetheless, it seems like the Duke product and his head coach aren’t seeing eye-to-eye right now, as a clip shared by Robert Griffin III shows Daboll throwing a tablet in frustration after giving his quarterback an earful.

Daboll vouched for Jones in the offseason; he trusted him.

The Giants had declined his fifth-year option, and rightfully so, as he hadn’t shown any signs of being a legitimate NFL-caliber quarterback until Daboll showed up.

He’s been fairly inconsistent this season, and while he should get most of the credit for that comeback vs. the Arizona Cardinals, he helped his team dig themselves into that hole as well.

Jones completed 27 of 34 passes for 203 yards and two interceptions vs. the Seattle Seahawks, also fumbling the ball twice (one lost).

Turnovers are very costly in football, and Jones seems reckless at times, especially when he runs and only grabs the football with one hand.

It’s early in the season, and we’ve seen teams rally late in the year, but the Giants will need much better play from their $160 million man.
