Patrick Mahomes Explains The Big Reason Behind His Reworked Deal

The Kansas City Chiefs will be contenders for the foreseeable future because they have superstar Patrick Mahomes as their starting quarterback.

Mahomes is by far and away the best signal caller in the NFL as he has managed to capture two Super Bowl championships already and is poised to add more as he continues to get better.

Any time a franchise finds its quarterback, they should do their best to keep them for as long as possible.

In this case, the Chiefs did the right thing by reworking Mahomes’ current deal to make him the highest-paid quarterback in the league.

Kansas City decided to restructure Mahomes’ deal to pay him $210.6 million over the next four seasons and the money is fully guaranteed.

When talking about his new deal, Mahomes revealed that he did it to help other quarterbacks get their own lucrative contracts via Adam Teicher of ESPN.

“I don’t want people to be negotiated against me, and so that’s the reason that you do something like I did…just trying to keep the market moving in the right direction…so not only me but other quarterbacks in other positions can get paid the money they deserve,” Mahomes said.

Every season, someone new resets the market for a position and in this case it sounds like Mahomes is giving his peers more negotiating power with their teams.

What he’s managed to do so far in his career is almost unprecedented and the guaranteed money is a reflection of that and what he will do for the franchise over the next few seasons.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are considered Super Bowl contenders again this season and it’ll be exciting to see if they can defend their title.
