Ahead of what could be a Super Bowl season for the San Francisco 49ers, there is growing tension regarding star defensive end Nick Bosa.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has been holding out of training camp in the hopes of securing a lucrative contract extension, but no deal has been agreed to, at least not yet.

Michael Lombardi reported on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he thinks both sides are close to agreeing to a contract and that the main question is whether Bosa will get more money than Aaron Donald on his new deal.

Donald, the stud defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams, makes about $31 million a year, but a strong argument could be made that Bosa deserves just a little more than that.

Bosa put up a league-high 18.5 sacks last season, as well as 19 tackles for loss and 48 quarterback hits, and the season prior he was at 15.5 sacks and a league-high 21 tackles for loss.

At age 25, he should have tons of high-level football left in him, and perhaps he can get even better over the next couple of years.

Some have said Bosa doesn’t deserve that much money due to his injury history, but he has had only one injury-riddled season — that was 2020, when a torn ACL limited him to just two games.

Other than that, he has missed just one contest in his four NFL seasons.

Some have mentioned trading Bosa as a possibility if San Francisco cannot come to terms with him, but their defense would take a major hit, not to mention their Super Bowl hopes.
