The Dallas Cowboys have had one of the NFL’s better rosters over the last few years, but it hasn’t added up to much.

They have won 12 games in each of the last two seasons, but they have exited early in the playoffs both times at the hands of the rival San Francisco 49ers.

This season, it appears the Cowboys have perhaps the most talented roster they have possessed since they last won the Super Bowl during the 1995 campaign, and thus their fans are thinking world championship.

As a result of the team’s early playoff losses, head coach Mike McCarthy has faced criticism, but analyst Craig Carton says it’s unwarranted.

Carton pointed out how McCarthy has won 30 of his first 50 games at the helm of the Cowboys, and while that may pale in comparison to what fans have wanted to see, it is certainly a very good mark.

Of course, for a franchise such as the Cowboys that has won five Super Bowls, it isn’t so much about what happens in the regular season as it is about success in the playoffs.

Being the head coach of the squad dubbed “America’s Team” is one of the most stressful jobs in sports, and it opens one up to tons of scrutiny.

This season, McCarthy will truly have no excuses barring major injury.

His team has added two studs in wide receiver Brandin Cooks and Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and many feel Dallas can challenge the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles for the best record in the division.
