Insider Reveals Deep Meaning Behind Anthony Edwards’ New Number

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been making a lot of headlines lately for all the right reasons, with the 22-year-old getting praised for his play on the basketball floor while also securing his long-term future in the league with a lucrative deal signed.

Currently, Edwards is making a lot of noise with Team USA, as he has become the undisputed leader of the squad, which is made up of some of the league’s most talented young players, like Mikal Bridges, Brandon Ingram, Jalen Brunson, Austin Reaves, and Tyrese Haliburton.

Edwards and company continue to dominate the competition in the Philippines during the FIBA World Cup, with the team recently winning their third straight game by crushing Jordan.

Although Team USA has some tough challenges ahead, namely Canada, which is also filled with talented NBA players, Edwards is quickly becoming a superstar, with fans being more and more interested in his story.

On “The Rally,” Shams Charania of The Athletic talked about why Edwards is now wearing No. 5 with the Timberwolves.

“(Anthony Edwards) is playing for something larger this season…No. 5 signifies: his grandmother passed away on the 5th of the month, his mother also passed away on on the 5th of the month, and he was born on the 5th of the month.”

According to Charania, the reason he made the change from No. 1 to No. 5 on his Timberwolves jersey was that he’s honoring his mother and grandmother, who both passed away on the fifth day of the month while also being born on the fifth day of the month (August).

With Edwards playing at the level he is for Team USA, the Timberwolves star seems to be highly motivated and ready to take it to the next level in 2023-24, with Minnesota possibly getting a massive boost from their new face of the franchise next season.
