The self-imposed deadline to trade superstar running back Jonathan Taylor has come and gone for the Indianapolis Colts, with the team unable to get a deal done with the Miami Dolphins.

Apparently, a deal with the Dolphins wasn’t even close, with the two sides never really seeing eye-to-eye on a trade to send the All-Pro to Miami.

Obviously, that is the worst news that Taylor could get in this situation, as now his future hangs in the balance, and he’ll have to sit out the first four weeks of the 2023 NFL season due to being on the PUP list.

Initially, all of this drama began because the Colts and Taylor couldn’t come to terms on a new contract, as he felt he deserved to be compensated as an elite back, which he is, with some believing he’s the best in the NFL.

After contract talks fell apart, Taylor requested to be traded, which enraged team owner Jim Irsay, who was adamant about not trading the star running back, which is a stance that changed.

Colts GM Chris Ballard addressed the situation on Wednesday and revealed why the team wasn’t willing to pay Taylor’s asking price, via Yahoo Sports.

Ballard makes it sound like it was Taylor’s fault that the team didn’t have a viable option at the quarterback position and that the star running back was to blame.

Taylor missed six games last season due to injury but was still able to rack up 1,000 from scrimmage and four touchdowns, which isn’t great, but isn’t terrible either.

Needless to say, this situation in Indianapolis may only get uglier moving forward, with both sides unhappy about the way things have gone thus far.
