MLB Insider Discusses Link Between Cardinals And White Sox Ace

The 2023 season is ultimately a lost cause for both the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox.

These are two teams that were expected to be clear postseason contenders at the beginning of the year.

However, things went south very quickly, and the two teams are among the five worst in all of baseball in terms of record.

This offseason, the Cardinals are going to need starting pitching like never before.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, there could be a potential fit for Dylan Cease in St. Louis, so long as somebody like Nolan Gorman would be the returning piece for the White Sox, via 101 ESPN St. Louis.

Rogers, who is based in Chicago, believes that Gorman and a top young pitching prospect would be enough for the Cardinals to be able to pry Cease away from the White Sox, citing that the young right-hander has just two years of team control left.

Rogers also mentioned that every good trade is going to hurt a little bit, regardless of who is involved.

This means that the Cardinals and White Sox would be parting with top talent in order to make this deal happen.

Cease is having an off-year this season.

He entered Wednesday’s start against the Baltimore Orioles with a 4.81 ERA.

However, if Cease is right, he has ace potential, which is something the Cardinals are desperate for.

In addition, the Cardinals could have a potential avenue to sign somebody like Aaron Nola or Blake Snell to further fortify their rotation if a trade for Cease gets done.

Rogers believes that starting pitching is the Cardinals’ biggest weakness and that this is what needs to be addressed in the offseason.
