The GOAT debate in the NBA has been a hot topic of discussion for quite some time now, with the debate being taken to another level entirely last season due to LeBron James finally passing Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

The debate seems to be more heated than ever when strong cases are being made for both sides, but one superstar of the past who doesn’t get mentioned in this conversation very often is the late, great Kobe Bryant.

In 2020, Bryant tragically died in an unfortunate helicopter accident, which took his legacy in an entirely different direction, as he became more of a legend who was bigger than life than a player who should be part of these debates that have no conclusion.

Former Lakers star and head coach Byron Scott was as close to Bryant as anyone who ever played with him and recently chimed in on why Bryant isn’t involved in these debates while speaking with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports.

Scott believes that the GOAT debate is complex because of players from different eras getting compared, which is hard to do because of different rules and competition that isn’t always apples to apples.

Along with Bryant not getting enough recognition for potentially being the greatest player to ever play the game, Scott also mentioned Abdul-Jabbar, who has seemingly been taken out of the running, especially after James recently passed him on the scoring list.

Needless to say, these debates are pretty ridiculous with no clear answer, nor will there ever be one, so it is almost a pointless conversation with everyone entitled to their own opinion.
