Anthony Richardson Comments On The Lofty Expectations In 2023

The Indianapolis Colts seem to be in flux right now.

Running back Jonathan Taylor, their best player, has asked to be traded after the organization refused to give him a lucrative contract extension, and after initially refusing to entertain a trade, they gave him the green light to seek a deal, but nothing has come of that.

Last season was a disaster for them, as they won just four games and went through three starting quarterbacks while firing head coach Frank Reich and replacing him with Jeff Saturday.

Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is their new starter under center, and despite what is going on around him, he has extremely high hopes for his rookie year, via ProFootballTalk.

“Everybody wants me to come here and win a Super Bowl my first year,’’ Richardson said. “I wish I could, and I hope I can. But sometimes, you’ve got to understand it’s not all about me. [I’m] making sure everybody on this team is involved and everybody is doing their job, because I’m not the only one here.’’

Richardson’s college stats weren’t particularly impressive — in his final season at the University of Florida, he threw for 2,549 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing only 53.8 percent of his passes, and he added 654 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

But his stock rose during the draft combine, largely because a number of teams felt he nailed the interview process.

Even if Taylor takes back his trade demand, the Colts are likely to miss the playoffs, but that could benefit Richardson, as it would mean there won’t be much pressure on him to be productive right away.

That by itself could increase his chances of succeeding at the next level and, yes, perhaps winning a Super Bowl some day.
