During the NBA offseason, a lot of star players in the league head overseas due to endorsement deals they have with shoe companies, which is precisely what Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade and current Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell did recently.

Unlike other Lakers stars that have deals with Nike, like LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Russell has a deal with Li-Ning, which is a Chinese brand that Wade has partnered with.

In 2019, Russell became Wade’s first signature athlete for Way of Wade, and that deal is still going strong, with the two being seen in China at an event to promote the brand via ClutchPoints.

Russell recently secured his long-term future with the Lakers after hitting NBA free agency last month.

Although it was uncertain whether Russell would return to the Lakers, with the team bringing in Gabe Vincent and re-signing Austin Reaves for the next four years, the veteran point guard inked a two-year deal with the team worth $37 million.

This was likely a smart move by Russell, as it didn’t seem like he was getting a lot of interest on the open market after playing poorly in the NBA playoffs for the Lakers.

Russell will now get a chance to start on a team that could be a legitimate title contender heading into the 2023-24 NBA season while continuing to win over the fans in Los Angeles.

The veteran guard will likely compete with Vincent for the starting gig in the backcourt, with it seemingly being an open competition ahead of training camp.
