Former Lakers Star Includes Another Legend In GOAT PG Debate
For the last few days, it seems that everyone in the NBA world has been talking about the best point guard of all time.
Is it Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors or Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers?
Former Lakers star Robert Horry wants to add another name to the mix.
Speaking on his Big Shot Bob show, Horry said that Isiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons is his choice for best point guard in NBA history.
“To me, you have to put Isiah [Thomas] in that conversation,” Horry said.
Horry repeated that he means no disrespect to Curry but he felt that Thomas brought more to the court than Curry does.
Not only could Thomas score against just about any other opponent in the league, but he was also good at locking down competitors too.
Horry said he judges a point guard based upon what they can do on both ends of the court.
If a guard can’t defend as well as produce points, they are lacking, he said.
As great as Curry is, Horry claims that he doesn’t hear many people talking about his terrific defensive skills.
Horry did agree, however, that Curry might be the best shooter around.
But that doesn’t mean he’s also the best point guard.
Horry makes a good point about a guard being capable on both ends of the floor.
Defense is just as important as offense and a guard needs to add to that.
This conversation about history’s best point guard is sure to continue.
Will more stars come forward and suggest other players who need to be considered too?
