Stephen A. Smith Explains How Anthony Edwards Can Be A Superstar

Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves is an absolute stud, and at age 22, he may be just starting to tap into his potential.

He is coming off his first All-Star selection, and he has looked outstanding with Team USA as it gears up for the FIBA World Cup, which will begin just days from now.

Some, including most notably Edwards himself, have made it clear that he has the potential to become an outright superstar, and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith says that if he develops a consistent jump shot, he will be just that, via ClutchPoints.

Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists a game while shooting 45.9 percent overall and 36.9 percent from 3-point range this past season.

While his shooting accuracy is certainly solid, he has had long stretches during which he has struggled to put the ball in the hoop from distance.

What makes him special is not only his explosive athleticism or his confidence but also the fact that he’s becoming a very good defender, which means he has the ability to become that rare superstar who also excels on the defensive end.

The Timberwolves are stuck in mediocrity despite having a solid amount of talent, but Edwards ascending to superstar status could get them past the 50-win plateau, a hurdle they haven’t cleared since the 2003-04 campaign.

When Team USA defeated Germany in an exhibition game on Sunday, Edwards scored 34 points and helped lead a late rally from a 16-point second-half deficit.

It could be a preview of what he will do in the NBA this coming season.
