When Aaron Rodgers was signed by the New York Jets, it was a sign that the team was tired of losing.

They gave up significant capital to acquire him, believing he is the main factor in unlocking this offense.

Shortly after he joined the roster, Rodgers took a massive pay cut, which Collin Cowherd has recently broken down via The Volume.

“It wasn’t just altruism” that led to this decision, Cowherd said.

“Get me another weapon,” Cowherd said about Rodgers’ potential comments to the organization.

The team responded quickly, signing Dalvin Cook to a one-year contract worth up to $8.6 million.

While Cowherd said this “isn’t their number-one need,” it does “allow them to bring back Breece Hall slowly.”

Hall is recovering from a torn ACL and could be slow to get back to 100% health.

The team did activate him from the PUP list, allowing room for him to come back by Week 1.

Regardless of when Hall returns to play, however, it appears that Cook will have an established role in this offense.

Teams continue to devalue the running back position, which has been on full display throughout the offseason.

Given the amount of Cook’s contract, the Jets could be tipping their hand regarding his usage.

The NFL is all about availability.

If you’re able to perform and perform well, you have a great opportunity to not only see the field but make great money as a result.

Can Cook continue his upward trajectory in 2023, providing immense value to a Jets team that is starving for a playoff berth?
