Not many people complained when the Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick.

It was a bold and risky move but one that could pay off big time, as he was an appealing prospect with unmatched athleticism, strength, and speed.

However, most scouts and experts could agree that he was still raw and could take some time before he was ready to take the field.

That’s why it was kind of shocking to see HC Shane Steichen giving him the nod and naming him the starter for the season opener, although team owner Jim Irsay seemed quite satisfied about this decision.

The Colts gave Richardson some reps during their first preseason game, and he wasn’t that impressive, going 7-for-12 for 67 yards and one interception.

Accuracy and decision-making have been major concerns about his play, as he completed just 54.7% of his passes in college, and he was only a starter for one season.

Also, with a veteran like Gardner Minshew also on the roster, some people expected Richardson to be brought along slowly, with some even believing he wouldn’t take the field during his rookie season at all.

That’s obviously not going to be the case anymore, and it seems like the Colts are willing to let their prized rookie grow through his mistakes and take the reins of the offense right away.

Once again, this is a risky gamble, and it’ll be interesting to see how it pays off once it’s all said and done.
