Former Teammate Comments On Russell Wilson’s Latest Performance
The Denver Broncos took the field this past weekend for their first preseason game of the new season, and they narrowly lost to the Arizona Cardinals, 18-17.
It was a chance for fans to get a first look at future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Russell Wilson in the team’s new offense and under new head coach Sean Payton.
Wilson didn’t exactly look very impressive, as he completed only seven of 13 pass attempts.
However, former wide receiver Golden Tate, who played with Wilson about a decade ago while on the Seattle Seahawks, is encouraged by the signal-caller’s preseason debut, via “Speak” on FS1.

Tate pointed out that Wilson didn’t look comfortable on the field, but he is confident that Wilson and Payton will make things work once the real games commence.
Last season, in his Denver debut, Wilson had the worst season of his career, while the team had one of the worst offenses in recent NFL history.
Despite being expected to be Super Bowl contenders, the Broncos won only five games and suffered through lots of self-inflicted miscues.
Payton has brought a sense of hope and stability to a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2015 season, and he has everyone focused on getting back to the postseason.
Wilson is now 34 years of age, and it is very possible that he won’t even be close to the quarterback he was as recently as 2020 when he threw 40 touchdown passes.
2022 was the first time in his career that he failed to get named to the Pro Bowl.
